Spice Excursion

Zanzibar is known as the Spice Island and spices are the main source of income among the residents of Zanzibar. We will have the opportunity to visit a farm to touch, smell, and taste different spices, eat a traditional Swahili dinner and enjoy a traditional dance performance.

Jozani Forest

One of the few places in the world where the rare colobus monkeys can be spotted. We also examine many species of butterflies, birds, plants and trees and learn about alternative medicine derived from the forest that is used among the residents of Zanzibar.

Auschwitz

To many, the Nazi Death Camps at Auschwitz embody the Holocaust. Auschwitz was the largest of the Nazi concentration camps and extermination centers. Over 1.1 million men, women, and children lost their lives in this place. Walking through this site provides a student with a glimpse into one of humanities worse atrocities.

Fiesole Etruscan Ruins

We take a day to leave the hustle-bustle of Florence for the nearby hill-town of Fiesole. There we tour the ruins of a settlement occupied by the ancient Etruscans and Romans. We have lunch in town, walk its charming streets, and hold classes on the piazza before returning to our Florence hotel.

Salamanca & Avila

Toledo

We visit the cathedral and learn about the architecture and artwork, including many works by El Greco. We then walk through the Jewish neighborhood, visiting the Santa María la Blanca Synagogue. During your free time, you can explore the city, learn about Damascene and Toledo’s steel, shop, and try the city’s specialty, marzipan.

Madrid

We travel by public bus to Spain’s capital, Madrid, and learn about taking the subway to the city’s center arriving at the Puerta del Sol. From there, we take a walking tour including the Palacio Real, Plaza Mayor, Prado Museum, and other key monuments, finishing at lunchtime.
