Program Excursions

International Manga Museum

Housing an extensive collection of indigenous manga and the works of international manga artists. The museum’s main attraction is its massive collection lining the walls in every direction over several floors. There are displays on the evolution of manga, demonstrations on how to draw manga, as well as occasional performances of kamishibai, in which a performer tells a story accompanied by a paper scroll with scenes to illustrate the story.

Horyu-ji

We visit Horyu-ji Temple, the world's oldest wooden building and the home to Japan’s oldest statues of Buddha. The oldest Deva king guardian statue in Japan is the one with its mouth open at the gate of Horyu-ji Temple having guarded its gates for 1,500 years. This Buddhist temple was once one of the powerful Seven Great Temples and today is a World Heritage site and one of the most celebrated temples in Japan.

Nagoya Castle

We visit Nagoya Castle, which dates back over 400 years. During World War II, it was destroyed during bombing and has since undergone reconstruction and repair. Designated as a National Treasure, it features a pair of golden shachihoko (imaginary sea creatures with tiger-like heads) that sit atop of the tower.
