The KIIS Advantage
Non-Profit Study Abroad
Credit Toward Degree Completion
Each and Every Year!
Founded in 1975, KIIS is a faculty-led study abroad consortium of colleges and universities in Kentucky and surrounding states. KIIS is dedicated to providing exceptional— and affordable— international education programs for college credit. We believe study abroad should be an integral part of any degree program, regardless of academic discipline, and should prepare students to be globally competent upon graduation.
“I made incredible friends, traveled to several different countries, performed in a historic cathedral, and made memories that I will never forget all while learning things in a new perspective. Studying abroad had such a huge impact on who I am today.”

“Studying CDI in Prague was the best experience. It was so cool to see the different culture of the same profession. Megan and ZB are the best too. Her knowledge of CDI and his knowledge of and connections in Prague made for a very educational experience in an incredible city. Studying CDI in Prague was without a doubt one of the highlights of my educational experience.”
- Bobbie, Prague
“Salzburg allowed me to study in a country where so many great composers were born, including Mozart, while earning credit towards my degree. Earning these hours allowed me to lighten my course work for the regular semester and gain experience to aid my future career.”

“The study abroad trip to Greece made the learning of ancient Greece and Greeks more personal because I was witnessing the locations and artifacts that we were discussing which made it seem more real. We weren't talking about events that happened in a far away land but were discussing events that happened on the very ground we were stepping on. To me, it just blew my mind and made me love every minute of my journey.”
“I wanted to go to Japan because ever since middle school I was fascinated with their culture and country. I really loved Asian history as well as their anime culture.”
“I made fast friend with many children who lived nearby. They would run up to me in the street for a quick game of ball and for piece of candy that even child within a 1/2 mile knew I carried and gave away freely. The kids knew me by name and greeted me as I walked to school.”
- Kara, Morocco
“Traveling to Japan was my first time out of the U.S. and it was one of the most exciting and memorable trips I'll ever take. I made friends and memories for a lifetime.”

“This was a one of a kind opportunity to really experience the culture, create new memories, and make life long friends. “I grew so much more than I could have possibly imagined in Munich. The knowledge I’ve gained in 6 weeks is unfathomable.”
“I was initially a bit nervous of going to a new country, but having done so, I would do it again in a heartbeat. It is one thing to see recognizable structures in pictures such as the Eiffel Tower or elaborately decorated cathedrals, but there is truly no substitution for seeing them in person. Getting to immerse yourself in a new unfamiliar place is a big part of the college learning experience. Go out there, explore!”
- John, Paris-Munich Winter
“For me this experience was so eye-opening, getting introduced to different cultures and just seeing how much larger the world actually is… Every little detail of each city, even the street art found there, adds to the certain character of that area.”
"I think the most valuable aspect of my semester in Merida was living with my local Mamá and her two daughters. I felt like I was better able to integrate myself into daily life and understand complexities that you don't get from being a tourist. Connecting with Dede, Gina, and André was one of the most valuable experience of my life. My favorite memories came from conversations and activities with them, like when I got to help make pastellitos and wedding cookies with Dede at the kitchen table!"
- Emma, Mexico Semester

“Study abroad taught me, in the most hands-on way possible, how to truly live. Never, for one single moment of my life, have I regretted my decision to study abroad, and I never will. It is easily the best investment that a person can make in herself, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.”
