Credit Toward Degree Completion
Each and Every Year!
Founded in 1975, KIIS is a faculty-led study abroad consortium of colleges and universities in Kentucky and surrounding states. KIIS is dedicated to providing exceptional— and affordable— international education programs for college credit. We believe study abroad should be an integral part of any degree program, regardless of academic discipline, and should prepare students to be globally competent upon graduation.
“When you travel or study abroad, everyone comments on pictures, but the true value isn’t only what you see. The hidden worth of your experience returns with you in unexpected ways. It can be a new appreciation for corner coffee shops, new confidence in riding the subway or learning to communicate using charades.”
- Shaleena, Chile

“The Berlin trip has helped my graphic design skills more than I ever would have thought. Coming back to the states and working on graphic design projects and even just viewing the world around me, I am more aware of design in my daily life and the Bauhaus principles I was taught have definitely shown in the work I have done since I have returned.”

“The CDI study abroad program in Prague is a culturally immersive experience in a beautiful culture, all the while learning about your future career as a Speech-Language Pathologist. I believe the experience helped me through the application process for graduate school. How many future SLPs can say they studied Communication Disorders in another country?”
- Hannah, Prague
“Stepping out on faith to study abroad was something I was often nervous about because I knew I didn't have the personal funds to pay for my study abroad program. I depended on highly competitive scholarships. With lots of help and dedication to construct a strong essay, I became a Gilman scholarship recipient. For that I am forever proud of myself, and grateful.”
– Jade, Tanzania

"My heart has never been as full as it is after living in Costa Rica among some of the most loving people I've ever met, who truly know how to appreciate the little things in life. – Tess, Costa Rica
“Eiscafé Pinocchio is an Italian, family run gelato shop in Bregenz, Austria. The café serves house made gelato, Italian coffee, and select cocktails. Located in the heart of Bregenz’ pedestrian zone, it is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. For my Graphic Design course, I presented my branding ideas to Pinocchio and worked on a hand lettering project which I turned into a Wanderlust Travel Book."

"KIIS Italy was an experience of a lifetime for me. I learned so much about the culture, religion, art and people, but above all, I learned a lot about myself. Italy was absolutely beautiful, and I was fascinated with all the historic places and pieces of art there. My favorite place we visited was Rome because it's so old and contains so much history. This experience showed me that it's possible to go and do things beyond my comfort zone providing me with the confidence to achieve more in my future career wherever I end up.”
- Hayley, Italy
“Savor the moments abroad while they last because before you know it, it will be gone. Studying abroad is an INCREDIBLE opportunity to see and do things that you'll never be able to do at home. Cherish the friendships that you make, and be as friendly and outgoing as possible to both leave a good impression and make the most of your experience. If you don't try to make the most of the journey, why go in the first place? ”
- David, Japan

“This experience was so worthwhile. It not only helped me to improve my Spanish speaking and reading skills, but it allowed me to experience firsthand what living in another country was like. “The study abroad trip to Greece made the learning of ancient Greece and Greeks more personal because I was witnessing the locations and artifacts that we were discussing which made it seem more real. We weren't talking about events that happened in a far away land but were discussing events that happened on the very ground we were stepping on. To me, it just blew my mind and made me love every minute of my journey.”

"This is my second time studying through the KIIS, and if I could there would be a third! I took 2 photography classes while on the KIIS Paris 1 trip and I really feel like these 2 classes pushed me in the direction of getting a way better insight of this beautiful city. The assignments were always fun and we were usually out and about in the city!"
- Betty, Paris I
“I was never the student that believed I could go be in a different country for any amount of time. I did not find learning about other cultures extremely important to my life. But one day, my bestfriend in my CSD program said 'lets study abroad'. The next day we got an email about studying Communication Disorders in Prague for a month. We applied and got in. My experience in Prague will eventually shape my life into such a different life I ever imagined before studying abroad. My love for travel and learning about different cultures was overwhelming. I plan to spend graduate school as far away from as home as I can. I also pray to take a traveling Speech Pathology position after graduate school. I will forever be thankful for KIIS and Prague for this life changing experience.”
