U.S. Embassy visit

We will visit the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw and receive a country briefing led by a current U.S. Foreign Service Officer (FSO) to learn about historical and contemporary economic and political conditions in Poland and the current relationship between our two countries.

Krakow

We take a walking tour of Kraków, known for its well-preserved medieval core and Jewish quarter. We will walk through the historic old town, the stately market square of Rynek Glówny, stroll through Planty Park, and see the remnants of the city’s medieval walls.

Warsaw

We will visit Warsaw, a city of rich history, resilience, reconstruction, and a deep appreciation for the arts. It is a city with a growing international atmosphere, and one that honors its past, especially its devastating WWII history of near-total destruction.

Celestún

Located along the Gulf Coast, the Celestún Biosphere Reserve is a protected coastal region known for its rich biodiversity, vibrant flamingo population, and striking pink salt lagoons. Students explore mangrove and wetland ecosystems while learning about conservation efforts, traditional salt production, and the environmental challenges facing coastal communities.

Xcaret

Xcaret is an eco-archaeological park that brings together natural environments, cultural traditions, and contemporary interpretations of Mexican heritage. Students engage with exhibits and performances highlighting Indigenous history, biodiversity, and regional customs, including a large-scale evening show that traces Mexico’s cultural and historical narratives.

Valladolid

Colorful and walkable, Valladolid is a historic colonial city that offers insight into daily life in the Yucatán beyond major tourist centers. Students explore the central plaza, local markets, and surrounding neighborhoods while observing the blending of Maya and Spanish influences in architecture, language, and foodways. The visit provides space to reflect on regional identity.

Ojochal

We will visit la Reserva Playa Tortuga, a research center for sea turtle and environmental conservation, and we visit the Marina Ballena National Park, a favored place to observe humpback whales and dolphins.

Liberia

During our stay we will visit Rincon de la Vieja National Park, home to an active volcano, and Cañon de la Vieja, to explore its volcanic mud, hot springs, and wildlife. We also visit the UCR Liberia Campus.
