Zanzibar [Spice Island] During our three days and two nights in Zanzibar, we take a boat ride across the Indian Ocean. Cultural and historic outings include: spice farm, stone town, Safari Blue (a day in the Indian Ocean), slave market and offshore island visits.
Farewell Reception After exams we gather with our Spanish housemothers to enjoy tapas and socialize together at a local restaurant.
Madrid The group travels by public bus to Madrid and learns about taking the subway to the center of the city. We take a walking tour including the Palacio Real, Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Prado Museum, and other key monuments, finishing at lunchtime. Cuéllar and Coca We visit two small towns and their castles in the province of Segovia that includes a meal at a local restaurant and a visit to a nearby vineyard to learn about wine production.
Salamanca & Avila We begin our walking tour in Salamanca with two cathedrals next to the Río Tormes. Other highlights include the university, established in the thirteenth century, and the Plaza Mayor. Toledo We visit the cathedral and learn about the architecture and artwork, including many works by El Greco. We then walk through the Jewish neighborhood, visiting the Santa María la Blanca Synagogue. During free time, you can explore more, shop, and try the city’s specialty, marzipan.
