“I decided to study in Turkey with KIIS in 2009 and again attended the trip as a grad-student Intern in 2011. While on both trips, I studied Ottoman History and International Business – the credit I earned was through Western Kentucky University and counted towards my graduation. The importance of decisions I made to study in Turkey, ended up changing my life and becoming some of the most important decisions I ever made. Learning and traveling there – I fell in love with Turkish culture, learned the language, learned of job opportunities, and after finishing my college education – ended up living and working in Izmir, Turkey for 10 years. Turkey is truly amazing and unique, and everyone I’ve ever met who traveled there absolutely loves the place. While trying not to sound too cheesy – traveling, experiencing cultures, learning a second language, and getting to know people who don’t look or think like you do – are numbers 1-4 of the most important things that I feel have made me into the person sitting here writing this testimonial. Those 4 things are crucial in having an accurate perception of our own culture in America, and the state of affairs in the world today.”
