Program Overview

Kentucky Institute for International Studies (KIIS) will sponsor an educational, cultural, and personal enrichment program in Italy designed for adult learners. The program is May 6 – 17, 2020.

The KIIS Lifelong Learners program will stay in Rome, Cortona and Florence, Italy visiting notable cultural sites with special focus on the creative genius of Michelangelo. The program is directed and guided by Prof. Christopher Fulton of the University of Louisville, assisted by a KIIS staff member. In addition to works of art and architecture by Michelangelo, we explore monuments of ancient and Baroque art, tour vineyards in the Montalcino region, inspect Piero della Francesca’s astonishing frescoes in Arezzo, wander the fantasy garden of Bomarzo, take a cooking lesson in Cortona, and enjoy many other thrilling activities.

Participants should be in good health, comfortable standing for extended periods of time and walking 1-3 miles a day. Group excursions are held each morning with optional excursions in the afternoon. You will be led by Professor Fulton at each excursion site. The KIIS staff member also will accompany the group throughout the day.

Donations Welcome!

The Kentucky Institute for International Studies (KIIS) is a non-profit consortium of 20+ colleges and universities in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and neighboring states. Each year KIIS sponsors around 30 study abroad programs on five continents and sends over 500 students and 80 faculty abroad.

Many of these students come from disadvantaged backgrounds, and it is a challenge for them to raise funds for their overseas experience. We thank you for any donation you choose to make.

Each year KIIS awards $75,000+ in student scholarships including the Dr. Meg & Barry Brown KIIS Summer Scholarship and the Joseph C. Hess Memorial Scholarship.
