We visit Horyu-ji Temple, the world’s oldest wooden building and the home to Japan’s oldest statues of Buddha. The oldest Deva king guardian statue in Japan is the one with its mouth open at the gate of Horyu-ji Temple having guarded its gates for 1,500 years. This Buddhist temple was once one of the powerful Seven Great Temples and today is a World Heritage site and one of the most celebrated temples in Japan.
