Frequently Asked Questions

(1) Does KIIS defer payment for students receiving financial aid?
No, all students must submit payment in full by the stated deadlines.

(2) May a spouse or child accompany a participant on a KIIS program?
Yes, but only on a space-available basis. Spouses of participants are required to apply to the program and register for at least one course for academic credit unless that spouse is going to take care of a child or a participant with a disability. Family members must pay the full program fee whether taking classes or not.

(3) Will an application that is missing the application fee be considered?
No, the application fee of $150 must accompany the application.

(4) Is the $150 application fee part of the program fee?
No, the two amounts are separate.

(5) Is the $150 application fee refundable?
The $150 application fee is non-refundable except when a student is not accepted into a program after review by the program director or when a student is put on a waiting list but does not move into a place in a program.

(6) I applied last year and was unable to go. Can my application fee be transferred to this year’s application?
Yes, as long as it was not refunded to you last year for some reason.

(7) What about applications that are submitted by the application deadline, but are missing one of more of the other required pieces?
Applications will not be considered without the all of the required pieces. If an application packet is not complete at the deadline, then the student’s application will be considered on a space-available basis.

(8) Will late applications be considered?
Applications postmarked after the application deadline will be considered on a space-available basis and will incur a $100 late fee in addition to the $150 application, both of which must accompany the application. If a program has a waiting list, late applicants who are accepted will automatically go to the bottom of the waiting list.

(9) My campus representative is not available. Will my application be considered without his/her signature?
No. If you attend one of the consortium schools, your campus representative must sign your application.

(10) Will KIIS accept an unofficial, student-issued transcript?
No, the transcript must be official and must be mailed directly from the student’s registrar’s office to the KIIS office. The transcript MAY NOT be issued to the student or any other person in a sealed envelope and forwarded to the KIIS office. It is recommended that students request transcripts at least two weeks prior to the application deadline to allow sufficient turnaround time in mailing of the transcript.

(11) How does the waiting list work?
If there are more applicants than a program can accommodate, then a waiting list is created. A student on the waiting list may move up into a space that is created if an accepted student withdraws from a program. If a student does not move off the waiting list, or chooses to withdraw his name, the $150 application fee will be refunded.

A student who is put on a waiting list may opt to move his/her application to another KIIS program that is not over-subscribed. The application would be subject to review by the director of the new program.

(12) Can I apply for a KIIS scholarship if my program application was late or incomplete at the application deadline?
No, applications for KIIS scholarships will only be considered whose program applications were complete and received by the February 15th deadline.
