SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

Fall Semester Programs

In 2004, a variety of scholarships may be awarded by KIIS to students presently attending schools that are full members of the KIIS consortium.

One or more scholarships may be awarded from an endowed fund established to honor the years of dedication and service given to KIIS by Milton and Inger Grimes.  The amount of the scholarship(s) will vary.

Three scholarships (one per each fall semester program) in the amount of $750 may be awarded in honor of Dr. Kenneth E. Harrell’s contribution to the establishment and development of the KIIS consortium.

To be eligible for consideration for a scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Be currently enrolled at an institution that is a full member of the KIIS consortium.

  • Be returning as a student to the member institution during the academic year following the semester with KIIS.

  • Have accrued at least 30 semester hours of college credit by the end of the summer semester preceding the program.

  • Have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and a 3.5 in his or her major or intended major.

  • Demonstrate financial need by having a financial aid officer complete the financial aid statement or, if not receiving financial aid, by preparing a personal statement regarding need for financial assistance.

  • Have at least one year of university-level foreign language training or its equivalent.  (Students may apply who do not have this training, but preference will be given to students who meet this criterion.)

  • Submit a complete scholarship application to the student’s KIIS campus representative no later than April 1, 2004.  An application consists of the following parts:

    • A typed application form

    • A 200-word essay on why the student would like to study abroad.

    • One letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the student’s major.  This is in addition to the two letters of recommendation requested for the regular KIIS program application.

    • Either the attached financial aid statement or, if not receiving financial aid, a personal statement regarding need for financial assistance.

ALL PARTS OF THE APPLICATION  MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE STUDENT’S KIIS CAMPUS REPRESENTATIVE NO LATER THAN APRIL 1, 2004 FOR THE APPLICATION TO RECEIVE CONSIDERATION.  APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AFTER THAT DATE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

COMPLETE APPLICATION PACKETS WILL BE MAILED TO THE KIIS OFFICE
